Haylea Hannah is an epidemiologist on a mission to better understand barriers to addiction treatment. As an epidemiology fellow with Marin HHS, Haylea was mentored by Dr. Matt Willis and Rochelle Eremen and was integral to building RxSafe Marin’s data-driven approaches. Now a doctoral student at the University of Washington School of Public Health, her dissertation seeks to understand the role of stigma and other factors that limit access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Her interviews with people living with addiction will provide important insights and inform strategies far beyond Marin. She is also evaluating the cost-effectiveness of policies to increase MAT access.

I’m interested in understanding individuals’ experiences continuing and initiating treatment during incarceration, and if they were forced to stop treatment, how that influenced their perceptions towards treatment in the future.”
